How to be sustainable. Education and knowledge

How to be sustainable. Education and knowledge

These are some of the things you can do as an individual to make your time on the planet a little more responsible. These are some ideas that we would like to share with you to make your way to the eco-friendly world easier.

If you have come this far, it is because you know that with small gestures it is possible to change the world. You know that your consumption habits directly affect the environment and you want to join us in this big change. You want to ACT NOW but you don't know how to start.

We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.

Knowledge is power. It is very important to take action and change our lifestyle towards a more sustainable one, but it is also very important to be informed and inform others. The more people we are, the bigger the change will be.

  1. Watch documentaries about climate change

One of the best ways to learn about this issue without making much effort is to watch documentaries. Nowadays, there are many documentaries on various platforms that tell us about the problem of climate change from different perspectives, from the extinction of coral to the excessive use of plastics through the meat and fish industry. In addition to being informed about the problem we are facing, you will also find documentaries with solutions that give us a glimmer of hope to reverse this situation.

You can read our post “10+1 Environmental Documentaries to #ActNow"

  1. Read books about climate change

For those of you who want to find out a little more about the subject, we believe that reading books related to climate change is a very good way to be informed. And, in the same way that with documentaries, there are many books that tell both the environmental problems and the possible solutions that exist right now.

  1. Attend talks about climate change and sustainability.

Another very good option to stay informed on the subject, or even for those of you who are starting to become interested in making a change towards a more sustainable lifestyle, would be to attend or watch educational talks. Right now (2021) there aren’t many phisical events available, but it is not difficult to find talks on social networks that address and explain the situation we are living, as well as possible solutions. There are many experts willing to share knowledge so we can all do something about it.

  1. Propose talks

Another option related to the previous point for those who want to go a little further would be to propose to your teachers or bosses an educational talk at your school or work center. In this way it would be a more exclusive and focused talk to the group in question and you could even discuss the possible solutions that exist or that everyone can do to reverse climate change.

  1. Suggest documentaries

Depending on where you work, it may be complicated to ask your boss to show you a documentary at work (you can watch documentaries at home), but as far as education is concerned, it shouldn't be too complicated to ask your school or university teacher to show you a documentary about the environment. Then you and your class can discuss it and draw your own conclusions. It can be a fun activity that makes the whole class aware of the problem.

  1. Share information

Sharing is living.

It is very important to be informed, but it is also important to share that knowledge with other people. Not everyone has the same access to information and in this way, you will be helping, not only the people with whom you share your knowledge, but also the environment, because the more people we are trying to lead a more sustainable life, the easier it will be to save the planet.

You have to share, not only information about the problem but also about possible solutions, as for example, this post.
